some do's
teaching vocabulary
some do's
teaching grammar
- cannot be taught on its own
- integration of grammar in different skills
teaching grammar
- explicit inductive grammar teaching = pupil derives grammar rule out of language material
- explicit deductive grammar teaching = teacher teaches pupil the grammar rule
- implicit grammar teaching = pupil learns by heart language material with the correct grammatical structures --> no grammatical rules
- incidental grammar teaching/acquisition = learners 'pick up' a grammatical feature while their primary focus is on some other aspect of language (message or other language feature that is taught directly)
teaching grammar
- expliciet = met gebruikmaking van metataal (taalkundige begrippen)
- impliciet = zonder gebruikmaking van metataal, leerling verwerft structuur onbewust
inductief = van het voorbeeld (taalmateriaal) naar de regel (abstract)
deductief = van de regel (abstract) naar het voorbeeld (taalmateriaal)
teaching grammar
- adapt theory so pupils can understand it --> present perfect "The verb action happened in the past, usually the recent past, and the results of the action are relevant now"
- make time to do a lot of exercises - really necessary!
Some do's
teaching grammar
- pupils 1st/2nd grade vocational studies (BSO) advisable to teach them chunks of words
Chunks?
- a group of connected items or words so that they can be stored or processed as single concepts
- kant en klare, ongeanalyseerde brokken van meer dan 1 woord; deze worden niet geproduceerd door de leerlingen op basis van het toepassen van grammatical regels, maar zitten als grote(re) gehelen in ons geheugen
